Rizespor is a team that has finally been promoted back up to the Turkish Super League after a whopping five seasons below. Now that they are up top with the best once again, they knew that they would have to bring in reinforcements to stay right where they are.
Well, so far after four league matches, they are on a roll at 3-1. They have all of their players and coach to thank of course, but there is one player in particular that they owe quite a bit of gratitude towards: Ali Adnan.
The 19-year-old Iraqi international left-back was noticed at the Under-20 World Cup that took place in Turkey earlier in the summer. He captained that side all the way to a fourth-placed finish. He is remembered for an absolutely sensational free kick goal he scored against Uruguay in the semis.
Speaking of free kicks, he scored an absolutely stunning one at Gaziantep over the weekend that simply darted into the top right corner from almost 30 yards out. His left foot is nothing short of a bazooka.
One goal is not all the team has to be grateful for though. In fact, he has scored two goals and notched two assists in the first four matches of the league. His presence all over that left flank and over the set pieces have been of utter importance. The kid has shown this team, this league and the world that he truly is a wonderful talent in the making.
Adnan was looked at by Galatasaray prior to him agreeing to a deal with Rize. The reigning champions are in a left-back crisis as Hakan Balta has dipped in form while Albert Riera is no longer favored in that position. If Adnan were there, he would be starting in every single game.
The wonderful aspect of Adnan is that he loves playing for Rize since the city reminds him of his native Iraq, as does Istanbul. In addition to playing there, he wears the official license plate number, 53, on the back of his jersey. This is not only special to him, management and fans, but residents of the city as well.
Ladies and gentlemen, keep an eye out for this kid, he is truly becoming something remarkable.
