Napoli hosting Dortmund is going to be the top game of the day in the opening week of the UEFA Champions League group stage. Both sides boast an abundance of talented players who hold no fear when it comes to playing at the biggest stage.

The home side have a new coach, new goal keeper and two new attacking players who have instantly made some impact to the new Serie A season – Pepe Reina (on loan from Liverpool), Gonzalo “Pipa” Higuain and Jose Maria Callejon, both from Real Madrid.

Dortmund lost their most influential midfielder in Mario Gotze but gained Henrikh Nkhitaryan to replace him, while also adding Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is considered to be one of their best strikers. Both players have scored already in the Bundesliga and should be thanked for the run of form this Dormtund side are in at the moment.

This will be a game where both teams will attack and defend as a team while also testing their opponent. Napoli are a side that is still acquainting their new players to this Italian style of the game, while Dortmund are ready to come in and spoil the party.

The Germans will come in here and outplay their opponents, but will be happy to settle for a point if need be. Napoli will attack and attempt to use their loyal fans as motivation to defeat last season’s UCL finalists.

Prediction: Napoli 1 — Dortmund 2

The home side will start out strong to overwhelm their visitors, but once both sides settle down, the Germans will end up controlling the tempo of the game with their speed and strength to eventually earn all three points. It is only fitting that these two sides meet first in this “Group of Death” as both teams are more than capable of winning the group.
