Manchester City’s Second Half Surge Sufficient to Rip Plzen
Manchester City visited an undefeated (in league play) Viktoria Plzen side, who were ready for this Champions League opener, in a game that neither side will forget.
City managed to score only a total of three goals this past season in the group stage’s road games, but they have matched that already after only one game.
The first half ended in a 0-0 draw, but the first 13 minutes of the second half brought City their 3-0 victory, as Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero struck beauties to earn all three points.
City managed to keep a tough Plzen side off the board with their Premier League experienced star players and mastermind of a coach in Manuel Pellegrini, who was minutes away from bringing Malaga to the semis last campaign.
This team seems like they are finally ready to break the duck of not advancing out of the group stage. With three points after one game, they are set on the course to a better than decent finish. Whether it be first or second, this team looks ready to face the new challenges awaiting them in Europe this season.
However, there is one team that can cause them big problems both at home and away: Bayern Munich.
The German league and cup champions are also the reigning UCL champions, which gives them a huge advantage, as they have been there and have already done that. Winning at the Etihad will be difficult but it certainly can be done, as the Blues do seem to struggle against the better sides, like they did last year against Real Madrid.
Bayern won their opener 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow, which means that they are level on points and goal differential with City.
