The light seems to have finally come on for Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh international looks to have finally reached his potential in the English Premier League. The former Cardiff City starlet has seen his career come full circle under Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Throughout his time at Arsenal, Wenger has always had an eye for spotting young talent all over the world, rarely missing out or falsely projecting a prospects potential. At age 22, many soccer pundits and Arsenal supporters were beginning to lose faith in Ramsey, who could’ve been instrumental as a youngster in the success of Arsenal.
When Ramsey arrived at Arsenal from Cardiff City in 2008 for roughly $5 million, he was expected to be in the same mold of former Arsenal players Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri and current Gunner Jack Wilshere, but it never materialized. Ramsey was sent out on loan back to boyhood club Cardiff City and also enjoyed a spell with Nottingham Forrest.
When he came back to Arsenal in 2011, he still never quite looked like he was up for the challenge.
Many questioned the qualities that he possessed and why Wenger was ever picking the young Welshman in his first 11; his performances at times left a lot to be desired. Known as a box-to-box midfielder, no one could argue with the work rate and energy Ramsey brought to the pitch, but it was evident that he lacked quality throughout his Arsenal career. His shots seemed to lack venom, passes seemed to lack conviction and his confidence seemed to waver.
Nonetheless, Wenger believed in Ramsey and kept him as an integral part of his first team plans. Now Wenger is seeing the results of his patience. Ramsey has been nothing short of spectacular this season, scoring six goals already in all competitions to go along with a glittering performance in the Champions League.
The Welshman has been a decisive figure at the Emirates stadium this season. Ramsey has never scored more than four goals in an entire season before this year, and is on pace to being one of the top goal scorers in all of Europe.
Ramsey has played inspirational football so far this campaign. It is almost as if Wenger has made a world-class signing with the emergence of Ramsey to the delight of all Arsenal supporters. With Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere all excelling in the midfield, creativity is at an all-time high at Arsenal, and Ramsey is to be acknowledged for his contributions thus far.
