Manchester United was embarrassed against arch-rivals Manchester City. United couldn’t play defense and looked lost with out Robin Van Persie on the pitch. In the end, City beat United 4-1 and Wayne Rooney‘s performance was the only positive take away from the game.

Wayne Rooney was United’s best player out there. United fans should be glad he didn’t pack his bags and go elsewhere, or today’s loss could have been worse. Rooney showed why he is one of the best EPL players with his free kick goal. He curled it right under the cross bar and past City’s goal keeper. At that point in the game, it was too late for United, but they started to play better after Rooney’s goal.

It was Rooney versus City. There wasn’t much team play on United’s side, and it showed in the scoreline. The defense’s lazy, sloppy play led to all four of City’s goals.

On the offensive side, it was all Rooney and he can’t do much when City does not have to guard RVP as well. Rooney had some chances but either skied them or just mishit them.

United has some work to do. Hopefully Van Persie will play in the next game, or else United’s lack of depth could continue to hurt them.

Today only one man shined for United – Wayne Rooney. While he did score, he can’t do everything and United was embarrassed by City.
In the end, Rooney shined but Manchester United desperately needs Van Persie back in the line-up, or else they could face more embarrassments like Sunday’s.
