Over the weekend, Galatasaray came from behind to defeat Besiktas 2-1 away from home to hand the league leaders their first loss of this new Turkish Super League season. This was a deserved result as they tried to pick up from where they left off in the first half and did so successfully by ripping shots at BJK’s goal.

Now, we wonder why did Gala still fire Fatih Terim as head coach of the club?

The answer is a bit more complicated than just one reason.

Just a week ago, Terim watched his troops receive an absolute beating on home ground by Real Madrid in a 6-1 score line. That was one of the most horrible defensive performances ever shown by his team during his two plus years at the helm.

Well, losing the first big game in Europe and drawing three straight before they defeated Besiktas over the weekend was apparently the last straw.

The game was coming to an end this past Sunday against BJK when Felipe Melo slid straight through Ramon Motta and received an automatic red to be ejected. Afterwards, the players got into a slight scuffle then were ordered into the tunnel after the fans stormed the field to battle one another as well as the police on duty.

How does this have anything to do with Terim himself? Club president Unal Aysal was angry with Terim over these recent events in addition to the fact that he had agreed to coach Turkey simultaneously. He did offer the man a new contract extension which Terim was still yet to sign. Therefore, due to pride, ego, recent results and time, he chose to let him go.

Terim was truly the best coach for the job at Gala regardless of recent results. When it comes to Real Madrid, Terim fielded what he beloved to be the best squad for that match and the players ended up making him look like an idiot by allowing six goals. He will definitely be missed at the helm of the club.

Now, Terim will continue coaching Turkey full time until he is offered another club gig which may not happen for a while. He will look to put all of his attention to his nation which almost has to make the WC Finals after a 12 year hiatus.

As for Gala, they need to find a coach who can come in and enforce this team to earn a bunch of victories. After winning the league title two years in a row, they have to play out a three-peat which this year would give them their 20th ever league championship.
