Barcelona Reportedly Reach an Agreement with Marc-Andre Ter Stegen

Paul Frederiksen-USA TODAY Sports

Only a few days ago, Victor Valdes announced that he won’t take a step back in his decision to leave Barcelona, meaning the team needed to go out and shop a new goalkeeper as late as June to replace him towards next season. Several sources are now indicating that there might not even be a need to shop in January as they have already closed out a deal with one of their targets.

Several sources in Spain indicated that Los Blaugranas were able to complete a deal, at least in contract terms, with Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who had been mentioned earlier as one of the team’s probable targets to replace Valdes.

The deal is not done for a transfer to be made though, as the Spanish giants now need to negotiate with the Bundesliga outfit who aren’t keen on letting their star keeper walk away without them getting a benefit. It has been rumored that Monchengladbach are expecting to receive at least €15 million to get the deal done, and the keeper won’t join Barcelona before this current season is over.

The truth is that Marc-Andre Ter Stegen would be a great move for Barcelona if this deal is indeed finalized. The German international already has international experience both with his team and with his country. He’s still young, and his tremendous upside would allow him to become a steady name in Los Blaugranas’ starting XI for the next 8-10 years unless there’s a serious injury in the way.

Well played, Barcelona.
