Holland Men’s International Soccer team coach Louis Van Gaal is urging Wesley Sneijder to leave Super League giants Galatasaray to once again play under manager Jose Mourinho, this time at Chelsea. The reason for this is simple: to improve his competitive form in time for what is expected to be his last World Cup.

The 29-year-old has been a regular in the starting 11 for the reigning Turkish champion’s lineup but has failed to really make a mark. Instead, Ivorian international striker Didier Drogba has carried this team on his shoulders both domestically and in Europe. Therefore, Sneijder may look to leave in order to ply his trade in the Premier League for the first time in his career.

At Inter Milan, Sneijder wore the no. 10 jersey and under Mourinho’s guidance, he even managed to score one of the two goals against Bayern Munich  in the 2010 UCL Final to lift the most prestigious trophy in European soccer. He truly played at his very best under the Portuguese man and is expected to be able to do the same if he is to join Chelsea come January.

Van Gaal does have a point though: in order to help Holland try and make the World Cup for the second time in as many tournaments, Sneijder will have to play in a tougher league in order to truly force himself to hit his top form once again. In Turkey, he seems to not take the competition very seriously and barely runs or tries. A good reason for this is because he knows that he could still do better at the age of 29.

Whether he joins the Premier League giants or not, Sneijder deserves the chance to represent his country next summer in Brazil as he is still the irreplaceable no. 10 with his scoring, vision and set-piece ability.
