Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge Playing at World Class Level
Though Liverpool fans may feel slightly disappointed with the 2-2 result from this morning’s match against Newcastle United, they have to be absolutely ecstatic about performance from England international striker Daniel Sturridge. Adding another goal to his tally this season makes six for Sturridge and he maintains his status as the top scorer in the Barclays Premier League, a goal ahead of Newcastle’s Loic Remy and two goals clear of Manchester City superstar Sergio Aguero.
In the eight games without Uruguay‘s international star striker Luis Suarez, who was serving a suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic towards the end of last season, Sturridge has taken the helm and steered Liverpool into the top portion of the league table. Liverpool fans can hang their heads high knowing a strong finish following this great start will surely return the Reds to a UEFA Champions League appearance next season.
If Sturridge keeps up this blistering goal scoring pace and Suarez can return to his form from last season, a season where if he wasn’t suspended he would have won BPL Player of the Year, Liverpool could potentially be unstoppable. Last season, Suarez tallied 30 goals, 23 of which were league goals, and this season Sturridge looks to be on pace for at least 20. If both players continue to play at this level, then Liverpool will surely be one of the BPL’s most difficult teams to stop.
As it sits now, Sturridge and the Reds sit third in the League table just two points behind Arsenal for the top spot. With the top four spots in the table qualifying for next season’s Champions League, the task of getting there now lies within the left foot of the Liverpool striker. It has been a while since Liverpool fans have had a reason to be excited about their team’s chances at a triumphant return to Champions League glory and they owe all of this recent success on the pitch to Daniel Sturridge and his relentless goal scoring this season.
