Manchester City world-class striker Sergio Aguero is considered the heart and soul of the Citizens and he’s treated like an idol in the city after his late goal against Crystal Palace gave the team the Premier League title in the 2012 season.
That relationship could be close to a tragic end, however, as the Argentinian international is being reportedly targeted by Barcelona, who would be looking to sign him after the World Cup in Brazil next year.
Despite the fact that no official bid has been submitted, it’s no secret that Los Blaugranas maintain an interest over the former Independiente star. They already tried to land him before he arrived to Atletico Madrid and when he decided to join the Premier League, Barcelona was also rumored to make a push for him, but their efforts didn’t work that time.
The third time could be the charm. Barcelona’s manager Gerardo Martino is an admirer of ‘El Kun’, and the two Argentinean players at the team, Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano, could use their influence to convince Aguero to join them at Camp Nou. Barcelona are undoubtedly one of the best teams in the world and despite the strides Manchester City have made in recent years, they are nowhere near the pedigree of the Spanish giants.
It’s clear that in an offer is made, Manchester City will try to do everything they can to prevent the transfer. If Aguero wants to leave, however, not much could be done and the Argentina international would go on to improve a side that already features the likes of Messi, Neymar and Alexis Sanchez upfront.
