UEFA Champions League Preview: Chelsea-Schalke 04
Chelsea need to get back to winning ways after a bad result this past weekend.
Coming off a loss in the Premier League against Newcastle, The Blues will look to continue their positive run in the UEFA Champions League where they will host Schalke 04 at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho’s men are leading the group with six points, but the Bundesliga outfit also have six, so this match appears as a key game for both sides in their quest to position themselves near a round-of-16 berth.
Chelsea won’t have Fernando Torres available for this match, but they have several difference-makers in attacking positions like Frank Lampard and Oscar, but none is more important for the team’s success than Eden Hazard. The Belgian international is virtually unstoppable when he’s on his game and after scoring two weeks at the Veltins Arena, he’ll look to continue his success in Europe’s biggest tournament.
Schalke will probably group their lines near their own box as they will probably look for a draw. Their defensive line will need to be at their best as they will play against some of the top strikers in the world, but if they’re able to contend, they could even surprise with a counter-attack.
Prediction: Chelsea 3-1 Schalke 04
The Blues will dominate the game from start to finish as they are a more polished side both individual and collectively. Schalke will struggle to create chances going forward and even though they could score a goal, Chelsea will have no trouble winning the game with ease.
