Atletico Madrid Playing Like Title Contenders This Season
Atletico Madrid have stunned the world these past years with their performance at both domestic and European level.
All they’ve done is win a few trophies like the UEFA Europa League in 2012 and the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid this past season where they also finished third in La Liga with a squad that wasn’t nearly as talented as the ones of Barcelona and Los Merengues.
This season not only have they managed to continue their results, they keep progressing, and if they continue this trend they will need to be considered as title contenders in every competition in which they participate.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger already said it last month that Los Colchoneros are one of the toughest teams in Europe and that they should be considered as a dark horse to make a deep run in the tournament just like Borussia Dortmund last year. Atletico surely have solid pieces all over the squad and they are definitely a dangerous team.
Despite losing Radamel Falcao to AS Monaco last year, Atletico has one of the deadliest attacking duos with Diego Costa and David Villa. The former Barcelona star is slowly regaining the form that made him one of the most dangerous players in the world, and the Brazilian-Spaniard has been a pleasant surprise due to his incredible goal ratio to start the campaign.
Manager Diego Simeone has made an incredible job taking a squad that was supposed to be solid and transforming it into one of the best teams on the continent. If they continue playing at this level throughout the season they might end up with a few pieces of silverware once it’s all said and done.
