Champions League: Arsenal’s Historic Game vs. Dortmund Will Never Be Forgotten
Arsenal visited Borussia Dortmund on Matchday 4 in the Champions League just two weeks after losing the first meeting by a score of 2-1 on home soil. Earlier today, they were on a mission and were somehow able to accomplish it.
Honestly, the Gunners were on the back foot for much of the game, but not because they wanted to. Instead, the speed, strength and ability of the German hosts, who were unbeatable on this ground, were able to press throughout the entire match without missing a step. This was difficult for Arsenal, who are used to being able to play their game by dominating possession throughout the 90 minutes. That was nowhere near the case in this contest.
Regardless, one brilliant counterattack in the second half allowed Arsenal to claim the 1-0 victory, set up by Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud to be finished by an Aaron Ramsey header.
Yes folks, Ramsey does continue to be the unsung hero of this Premier League giant. The kid is not even supposed to be the best player that this side has to offer, but he keeps on scoring the important goals that matter. Of course, every goal matters in this game, but he scored the goal that allowed Arsenal to become the very first English club to ever win on Dortmund’s soil — that is something extremely special.
Now the Gunners lead the group with nine points after recording three wins and one loss. With games still to come against Napoli (away) and Marseille (home), they should be able to advance with one more win.
