The UEFA Europa League had its fourth matchday played today and even when there were some surprises in a day that was full of emotion all over the continent, the candidates are still maintaining their solid start to the campaign.

One of the teams poised to make a deep run at the tournament is Tottenham Hotspur. The Premier League outfit have a very strong team and they showed it once again at White Hart Lane, where they defeated Sheriff Tiraspol to continue their perfect run after four matches.

Fiorentina are another team that’s looking to lift silverware at the end of the year. The Italian Serie A side had to rally back against Pandurii Targu Jiu on away soil, but ended up getting the three points thanks to two goals in the final five minutes of the match. It wasn’t the best performance from the Viola side, but they will definitively take the win as they continue their championship quest.

One team that wasn’t in many people’s books was Red Bull Salzburg, but the Austrian side is turning some heads with their performance in the group stage so far. Red Bull maintained their perfect run as they traveled to Belgium to defeat Standard Liege.

Three other unbeaten sides weren’t able to maintain their perfect campaign today. Eintracht Frankfurt lost in a thrilling encounter against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Ludogorets weren’t able to win against a resilient Chernomorets Odessa team that was able to end up on top in a tough match.

There are other teams that were considered to be favorites that hadn’t been able to live up to the expectations, but are finding their form as the tournament advances. Sides like PSV Eindhoven, Rubin Kazan and Lazio are getting better and better and they could also pose a championship threat if they keep improving as the season goes along.

There are only two matches left to be played in the group page with the next matchday slated for near the end of November. The fifth matchday will surely be another stage where contenders will look to take another step towards a possible qualification.
