Juventus have beaten Napoli 3-0 on Sunday thanks to goals by Fernando Llorente, Andrea Pirlo and Paul Pogba. The ”Bianconneri” have made a big statement with this win over Rafael Benitez’s team and are now just a point behind league leaders Roma.
After Roma’s surprising draw (1-1) against Sassuolo, this Juve-Napoli match became more important. Both teams had the same number of points (28) before the game and the winner had a chance to put pressure on Roma, in addition of leaving the losers three points behind.
Starting with their usual 3-5-2 against Napoli’s 4-2-3-1, Juve started the game with more intensity and were rewarded with a goal by Llorente at the second minute. From there, the Bianconneri kept pushing and created many chances to double their lead. Pepe Reina, Napoli’s goalkeeper, had to come up with brilliant saves to keep his team in the game. The score at the break was 1-0.
Juve sealed the deal at the 74th minute with a brilliant free kick by Pirlo. The Italian midfielder perfectly curved the ball over the wall, which left no chance to Reina. After Juve’s second goal, Napoli’s manager Benitez replaced Jose Callejon and Gokhan Inler by Dries Mertens and Duvan Zapata to bring his team back into the game, but his substitutions made no impact. Napoli had a terrible lack of creativity throughout the game and struggled to create chances.
Juve’s final goal came at the 80th minute with a wonderful goal by Pogba. The Frenchman lifted the ball for himself after a pass from Arturo Vidal and sent a blistering volley beyond Reina. Despite Angelo Ogbonna‘s sending off which left Juve with 10 men for the last eight minutes, the Bianconeri remained in control of the game.
Juventus have won their fourth consecutive league game without conceding a goal. The reigning champions’ brilliant victory not only brought them back just one point behind Roma, but it also sent a strong message to the league leaders. Juve have no intention of giving their title away.
