No one can deny that Southampton has been a revelation this season, contending with the big boys in the English Premier League at every step of the way. No player has been more instrumental in the success of Southampton than Adam Lallana,

Relatively unknown in the EPL and even less known around the world, Lallana has made 208 career appearances for Southampton and has scored 42 goals for the club he started his career with. The attacking midfielder is oozing with quality as he can pick a pass and run at defenders with pace. His technique has developed tremendously over the years and at 25 years of age, he seems to have reached the zenith of his powers.

As an attacking midfielder, he is usually judged on his performances based on how he contributes in the final third of the pitch, but creativity has never been a problem for the Englishman. Lallana has excelled defensively as well, pressing the ball and intercepting passes throughout the midfield to spearhead the Southampton’s counterattack.

Southampton has given up the least amount of goals this season in the EPL with five so far this season, a stellar defensive record that has them sitting third in the Premiership. Lallana has truly been the catalyst for Southampton’s success and deserves a ton of credit for his performances this season. Supporters, players and managers have started to take notice of his talents.

Roy Hogdson, the England manager, has taken notice of Lallana’s performances as well, calling up the Southampton player to the senior England squad for the first time in his career. Lallana has played for England at the youth level, but Hodgson has handed the Southampton star his dream of playing for England. Lallana has been overdue for a call-up to the squad and I believe he will show that he belongs in the England setup if given a cap during the next international break.

Now that Lallana has become a known commodity in the EPL, it will be interesting to see if he can remain level-headed and maintain his sparkling form. Only time will tell if he will become a household name in the soccer world, but at the prime of his career, he is showing no signs of slowing down.
