Five Players Worth Keeping An Eye On

BVB
Witters Sport - USA Today Sports

Two of the best teams in the world right now will clash in a domestic Bundesliga encounter this weekend and the majority of eyes will be on the match.

Bayern Munich will take on Borussia Dortmund in what is not only a rematch of the Champions League final last year and the German Super Cup a few months ago, it’s also another chance to see which team is currently the best in the country.

Despite the fact that Bayern Munich is leading the league, they can’t get complacent against Dortmund. Die Roten have a new manager now in Pep Guardiola and the only time the Spaniard faced the ‘Yellow Bees’, the game ended with a 4-2 victory for the side managed by Jürgen Klöpp.

Both teams have some of the best players in the world so it will surely be a game for the ages. While Bayern Munich have elements like Ballon D’Or candidate Franck Ribery, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and dutch star Arjen Robben, Dortmund features the likes of Marco Reus, highly-rated midfielder Ilkay Gündogan and Poland striker Robert Lewandowski, considered one of the best forwards in the world and who’s been heavily linked with the Allianz Arena outfit in recent months.

It will be a thrilling encounter without a doubt and there several players worth keeping an eye during the 90 minutes. Without further ado, please join me through as we check five players that are worth analyzing during tomorrow’s match.

5. Ilkay Gündogan - Dortmund

BVB
Witters Sport - USA Today Sports

The German international is the motor of Dortmund’s midfield and he can be a difference maker in the attack despite not being a goal scorer. If he stands out in front of Bayern’s combative defensive midfield, Dortmund will have great chances to come out on top after the final whistle.

4. Phillip Lahm - Bayern

BVB
Witters Sport - USA Today Sports

Bayern’s right-back and captain has a knack for appearing in big games right when his team needs him. He will have a fierce battle with Marco Reus on defense and with Marcel Schmelzer going forward, so Lahm’s outing could end up being key for Pep Guardiola’s team.

3. Arjen Robben - Bayern

Witters Sport - USA Today Sports

The Dutch international had always been criticized for disappearing in the big matches, but he led the team to a Champions League final with two goals last year. He will face the same team and will surely be hungry for success as he’s looking to show he can’t be considered a ‘soft’ player anymore.

2. Robert Lewandowski - Dortmund

BVB
Witters Sport - USA Today Sports

The Poland international is the star of Borussia Dortmund and of the best strikers in the league. Most of Jurgen Klöpp’s team chances going forward will lie on his shoulders and if he’s able to produce and find the back of the net, he could become unstoppable for Bayern’s defensive line.

1. Mario Götze - Bayern

No other player will be watched more during the game than Mario Götze. The Germany international played for Dortmund last season and now he’s at Bayern where he’s been able to be a difference maker every time he's stepped on the pitch. Nobody knows Dortmund’s defensive line better than Götze so he could end up being the key to Bayern’s victory this Saturday.
