Fenerbahce hosted Besiktas in an Istanbul derby match that should immediately go down in the history books as one of the very best. Both sides were attacking on all cylinders and knew how to find the holes in one another’s defenses, which made this an exciting game to watch. There were six yellow cards and two red cards that were distributed evenly to both sides, which forced both teams to change their game plans quite quickly.
The first half ended 3-2 in Besiktas’ favor as Hugo Almeida recorded a brace and an assist to Olcay Sahan, with Fenerbahce’s goals arriving from Emanuel Emenike and Mousa Sow. Their final goal arrived late in the second half through Dirk Kuyt.
The game was snippy from the beginning as both sides gave it their all in the first half, but Fenerbahce managed to dominate most of the second half while being a man up. They had a goal called back due to a previous foul on Tolga Zengin (BJK’s keeper) who made a plethora of saves to keeper Fener off the board for most of the night.
This game keeps Fener undefeated on the season in the Super League, while BJK extend their unbeaten run to seven. Both sides deserved the applause from the lively crowd and truly played their hearts out. This is a game that will not be forgotten for years to come.
No matter what team the fans support, both deserve the utmost respect for their efforts.
