Galatasaray: Draw Once Again Insufficient

Galatasaray were forced to share the spoils once again in the Turkish Super League as Kaimpasaspor proved to be yet another tough opponent on the road.

The home side were led by Ryan Babel who may not have scored, but he certainly made the Gala defense work. His teammate Sanharib Büyüksal scored the team’s only goal in the first half.

The champions’ goal was scored through Burak Yilmaz who tapped home the cross by Didier Drogba who had to dance away from two defenders to whip the ball in.

The home side play a game that can be resembled by any team in Europe near the top of the table: fearless, confident, quick, swift and always ready to attack in the most intelligent fashion possible. This team could have easily defeated Galatasaray if it wasn’t for young keeper Eray Iscan who made the best save from point blank range late in the second half.

The visitors played a game that relied heavily on defense and attacking on the counter which is something they are still not used to under the management of Roberto Mancini. Fatih Terim always let the team play how they wanted and it was almost always rewarded. The Italian man needs to think about switching his tactics.

If Gala cannot change their season into a more positive one, they will struggle to defend the title as Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor are playing extremely well. They have a lot of work to do as well since they are also in the Champions League. Maybe some of their poor performances can be blamed on fatigue. Then again, Trabzon are in Europe as well and they are winning.

Folks, it may finally be sage to say that Gala will not three-peat as champions due to the mixture of styles all over the field. Switching coaches was always going to be a mistake. If they can get Terim back at the helm one day in the future they will be better off as he is one of the very best in the Turkish game.
