There’s little doubt that Manchester United need to improve their midfield if they want to maintain their title hopes for this season.
The Red Devils haven’t been able to replicate the success they’ve had in recent years after the arrival of new manager David Moyes, and the bad play in the center of the pitch has definitively been a factor. Marouane Fellaini hasn’t settled, Anderson hasn’t been productive and Tom Cleverley has been quite inconsistent to say the least.
The only reliable option the team has in midfield is Michael Carrick, and the team should look for reinforcements as soon as January. In that sense, they are already rumored to be targeting Galatasaray’s Wesley Sneijder.
The former Inter de Milan playmaker has been a longtime target for the Old Trafford outfit, and even though they tried to sign him in the past with no positive results, several sources are indicating a new bid is being planned. The Dutch star is rumored to be looking for a change of scenery before the start of the World Cup, and he has been linked several times with an arrival to the Premier League.
Knowing that the Turkish side might ask a bit too much for the attacking midfielder, Manchester United are rumored to be adding a player into the deal to sweeten the pot. Wingers Antonio Valencia and Nani are two of the names that have been thrown in the mix, but no official confirmation has been made about an offer being submitted.
It’s still early and the transfer market will only open in January, but Manchester United should do everything in their power to land Sneijder. He would give the team a boost offensively, and he might be the piece needed for the team to turn the corner in this difficult season.
