Franck Ribery Should Win Ballon D’Or Award
With the finalists for the Ballon D’Or already revealed, most pundits and experts will start picking their favorites.
Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Franck Ribery are the three candidates to take home FIFA’s most prestigious award and while the three players have enough merits to win it, no player deserves it more than the French international.
The Bayern Munich winger has been an instrumental piece and a leader in the best team in the world. Die Roten won the Bundesliga, the DFB Pokal and the UEFA Champions League last season and in the three competitions, Ribery played a pivotal role in the team’s success.
While he wasn’t much of a scorer last season – only 16 goals in 51 contests – Ribery was the one in charge of open up the defenses. His form increased as the season advanced and without his leadership and exciting play, Bayern wouldn’t have been able to achieve all the success they had last season.
This second semester hasn’t been spectacular for Ribery, but he has been able to celebrate anyway. Bayern are currently riding a 26-game undefeated streak and the team leads comfortably in both the local tournament and the Champions League. Ribery has been at his best under Pep Guardiola’s management, and his hat-trick this past weekend did nothing but confirm that assumption.
With France qualified to the upcoming World Cup, Bayern Munich leading all their tournaments and Ribery in the best form of his life, he’s the one that deserves the award the most. It remains to be seen if the voters think the same thing.
