Brazilian starlet Neymar has been in the eye of the storm as he’s been unable to dominate the competition as expected, but today he had his best outing since joining Barcelona.
The Brazil international scored an amazing hat-trick against Celtic in the 6-1 win by Los Blaugranas as the team secured first place in Group H and finished their group stage participation on a strong note.
The Neymar show started in the 45th minute where he scored Barcelona’s third goal of the contest. Gerard Piqué and Pedro Rodríguez had netted before in what was a dominant performance from Los Culés, but the pressure was even more intense in the second half as the former Santos star was the main offensive weapon for Gerardo Martino’s side.
Neymar scored a brace in the first 15 minutes of the second half to complete his hat-trick, and youngster Cristián Tello completed the huge scoring output for Barcelona. Greek international Giorgos Samaras pulled one back for Celtic near the end of the game, but the main story – since both sides had their fortunes already decided before today’s game – was Neymar’s performance. It was the first one where he really looked like one of the best players in the world.
The scary thought for the rest of the world is that Neymar will only continue to improve as he gets more accustomed to Barcelona’s system. His performance today was nothing short of spectacular, and he will look to build from this outing to cement his place as one of the best players in the world when the World Cup is only months away.
