5 Reasons Why Manchester City-Barcelona Will Be Competitive
Champions League: Manchester City vs. Barcelona
When these two sides meet, the world should perhaps think about standing still for 90 game minutes as everyone should very well be watching. Both teams are rich, technically gifted and have coaches that know how to win games with the right roster.
Well, there are nothing but checks by each of those needs.
Both teams are led by superstars and rising ones alike while being stacked in every single position from the keeper to the main striker. There is no way that these players will not look to take this game as seriously as possible. This is a match that is capable of being the 2014 UCL final. However, that is not the case as both team s have two chances -- one at home and away -- to grab an aggregate score that will enable them to advance to the prestigious quarterfinals of the most competitive and followed club competition in all of Europe.
The fans are truly going to be in for a treat when they get to see their money's worth when these two giants look to embark what could be the first of many talked about rivalries between them. One of the very best from England will be taking on one of the best from Spain. Both teams play a possession game that makes things difficult for the opponents since there is skill, intelligence and an abundance of scoring involved.
However, when it comes to defense, one side is better than the other in Europe -- City. These guys specialize when it comes to defending because in order to blow out teams, they make sure their defense is rock solid before anyone besides the strikers lead a usually successful attack. They may not be as talented in individual skill as Barca but they do play an admirable team game on both ends of the ball.
Now, we take a look at why this will be one of the most competitive series of the Round of 16.
5. Manuel Pellegrini
This man sued to be the coach of Real Madrid and Malaga. When in charge of either side, he never tasted success against the likes of Barcelona. Now, he arguably has the best squad and chance at beating them when it counts the most: Europe.
His team has a certain drive that has not been there in a long time. He has the players he needs to bring them success and can write history that he has never been able to write before. If he makes something good happen against the mighty Barca, he will be an instant legend.
This man just scored his first ever Champions League goal. He ended up adding two more in the same game to complete a hat trick against the likes of Celtic in a 6-1 home win on the final match day of the group stage.
With the goals out of the way, he now knows that even with the likes of Leo Messi and others helping him, he will have to be absolutely perfect against a Manchester City side that will be no pushover. In fact, they will look to attack on all cylinders. Therefore, this young man will have to play his smart game by scoring, earning free-kicks and assisting teammates around him.
3. David Silva
During his days at Valencia, he played well against BArca, but never realistically stood a chance at defeating them for the La Liga domestic title. Now, he has the chance to eliminate them from the UCL.
He has the skill, pave, mindset and ability to read the game from anywhere on the field. He will be the biggest key in the midfield for City's success against the Spanish giants.
2. Leo Messi
This man is the best player in the world. He is the No. 10 and leader of Barcelona and has conquered almost every single team that he has faced in recent times. Now, he has to face a team that defeated a team he had no chance against -- Bayern Munich. He knows that the will have to be perfectly fit, daring and ready to score more than once in an effort to make it to the quarters.
He will not be alone as he has Neymar and company playing around him and taking off some of the weight on his shoulders. He has the tools, so he just has to use them.
1. Sergio Aguero
There is a rumor floating around that international teammate Leo Messi has asked his bosses at Barca to bring him aboard. Now, they will have to face off come February in the Round of 16.
With his match set in print, there is no way that Aguero will look to join Barca before the summer at the very earliest. In fact, he should want to face Messi at this stage as he has the chance to come out of the superstar's shadow.
We all know who has more world player awards and who has had more success, but that is history. Now, we see who can lead their team to victory ... and this man has a lot more to say than his rival/friend.
