For the first time in recent years, Manchester United finally received a Champions League draw that gives them a good chance to advance past the Round of 16.

The Red Devils were set to face Arsenal and Manchester City in the 16-team round, but there were tough teams like Galatasaray, Zenit and Schalke 04 also waiting. In the end, the draw benefited them and they were drawn against Greek side Olympiakos. It’s definitively a very winnable opponent for the squad led by David Moyes, but in order to advance to the next round, the team needs to avoid complacency against a lesser side.

Manchester United has the upper hand in their matchups against the current Greek Super League champions. Actually, Manchester United have never lost against them in four UCL encounters and have always scored at least two goals in every single match. It’s well known, however, that history doesn’t play on the field and this United team is far away from past squads that used to dominate the opposition.

Manchester United has been relying almost exclusively in Wayne Rooney to score this year, and both Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck will need to step it up to contribute. The defense, on the other hand, hasn’t been very good either. Against a team that features dangerous strikers like Javier Saviola and Konstantinos Mitroglou, they will need to be at their best because every loose ball can end up being a scoring chance against them.

It’s undeniable that Manchester United is the early favorite, but there are still two months left to start the tie. The Red Devils will have the chance to close the playoff at home but in order to be successful, they will need to avoid any sign of complacency and play at their best. It’s the only way they will be able to advance in the competition.
