The Champions League group stages gave fans plenty of great games and last minute joy, or heartbreak, depending on which side you pledge your allegiance to.

Manchester United traversed Group A with relative ease despite some strong competition, a showing very dissimilar to their league campaign. Bayer Leverkusen joined them in progression after benefiting from Shakhtar Donetsk’s loss on the final match-day of group play.

Real Madrid were nearly prefect in qualification, winning all games but one, a draw against Juventus. Galatasaray won the right to the second spot by beating Juventus 1-0 on the final day of group play.

Paris Saint-Germain ran their group fairly convincingly besides a final-day loss to Benfica, who narrowly missed progression due goal differential. The Greek side, Olympiakos, followed PSG into the next round.

Bayern Munich barely took the first place spot as they were level on points with second-place Manchester City. The Citizens took second on goal differential. Both teams handled their group with relative ease.

Chelsea won fairly convincingly on paper but were inconsistent throughout the group stage, especially against Basel who had their number in both legs. Schalke took the second place spot with a win over Basel on the final day.

Group F, the group of death, was exciting down to the last minute. Even goose-egg Marseille contributed to the fun with a strong showing against Borussia Dortmund in their final game. The German side took first place despite being level on points with both Arsenal and Napoli.

Arsenal, who seemed to ease their way through group play, found themselves literally a goal away from a warm seat in the Europa League. Napoli were very unlucky not to progress and played quite a final game.

Atletico Madrid was really the only team that showed up in Group G, as second place Zenit progressed with six points.

Finally, Barcelona and AC Milan progressed in a very good group. Ajax were unable to beat Milan on the final day and as so were relegated to the Europa League.

The Champions League draw took place the other night and has promised some truly special matches. There are very few teams that are undeserving of a place in the knockout rounds and those that are questionable could very possibly cause some spectacular upsets.

Without further ado, here are the five best matches in the round of 16.

The French league champions will be facing a Leverkusen side who are sitting second in the Bundesliga in front of Dortmund.

This game will have plenty of offense. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani will be supplying the firepower for PSG while Heung-Min Son and Stefan Kießling will hope to put the German side in front early.

AC Milan haven't had a great league campaign so far this year but have looked strong in the Champions League.

On the other hand, Atletico have looked dominant in both competitions. This will be a great battle between two of the world's best strikers. Much of each team's success will hang on the form of Mario Balotelli and Diego Costa, respectively.

Both of these teams lost their last CL game, yet both teams are top of their respective leagues.

The Champions League holders will look to reproduce their wonderful form from last year while Arsenal hope to turn around their recent dip in form.

Both these sides have been in really great form recently and are scoring goals in bunches.

Neymar and Sergio Aguero have been class this season, and don't be surprised if each of them find the back of the net in this two-legged affair.
