FC Barcelona’s Neymar Jr. Is Synonymous With Scandal
Neymar is involved in yet another scandal. This time, it involves his high-profile transfer from Santos to FC Barcelona. Santos is now claiming that they have only been paid €17.1 million of the €57 million they agreed on with Barcelona in the summer.
The problem with the Neymar negotiation is that he was owned by Santos as well as a third, unknown party. Third-party agreements are common in Brazil, but are very complicated and always seem to benefit some more than others.
Barcelona claim that they have now finished paying the €57 million they agreed on, but Santos has yet to receive the money. Barcelona are known for their financial struggles and even though they have been hugely successful as of late, their finances have not been up to par with their performances on the pitch.
Some sources claim that Neymar’s father is responsible for the €40 million that is missing. His company owned the rights to Neymar and was supposedly paid €40 million that should have been sent directly to Santos.
Neymar’s high-profile move to Barcelona stunned the entire world, who was expecting him to join big spenders Real Madrid. He chose Barcelona because he wanted to play with Lionel Messi, Xavi, Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Andres Iniesta, and fans really can’t blame him for wanting to be a part of Barcelona’s golden generation.
The news comes just days after Neymar has been given an increased role on Barcelona following an unexpected injury to Messi. Neymar has finally been given the chance to shine, and new boss Gerardo Martino seems to have finally found a way to utilize his strengths.
I always thought that joining Barcelona was not a good idea for Neymar because he would always be in Messi’s shadow, and I haven’t been wrong so far. Most of Neymar’s outings have been lackluster and only with Messi is off the field has he proven what he is made of.
No one knows where the money is and unfortunately for Neymar, people will start pointing the finger towards him and his father’s shady deals. Neymar is without a doubt a superstar, but if he can’t fix his off-field issues, he will forever be remembered as a cheater and a troublemaker.
