5 Galatasaray Players Who Are Being Wasted On The Bench
Galatasaray's 5 Unused Weapons
Galatasaray is the best Turkish team in recent times as they boast one of the best rosters in Europe. In fact, their roster runs so deep that some of the guys on their bench are being wasted.
Players like Didier Drogba, Selcuk Inan, Wesley Sneijder and Felipe Melo all have to start since they truly make all the difference. Therefore, other guys who are younger or playing towards the end of their prime are being left unused. This could be a problem as it could hinder their confidence as well as performance. If head coach Roberto Mancini does not utilize his options a bit more fairly as soon as possible, he will end up losing some really nice gems.
Of course, it is a bit difficult to speak for the head man as he has a load of options for each position on the field. Some guys are irreplaceable, whereas others can easily be rotated from game to game. Rest is needed by everyone because if they do not get enough, they will be unable to play at 100 percent throughout the 90-minute matches.
In addition, some of the younger guys know their own worth, which is why they will lose confidence and patience as they deserve more playing time. They do get chances here and there to prove themselves, but if they make a few mistakes, they are punished by being forced to practice a bit harder every time in addition to waiting even longer to get more time on the field. This is not the best way to teach lessons to guys who are potentially the future of the club.
Let's take a quick look at five guys who should be given more chances from time to time.
5. Sabri Sarioglu
This man is asked to wear the captain's armband from time to time as he can lead his defense, midfield and even attack from his right-back position. He is smart, fast, tricky, brave and knows when to do what with the ball.
He no longer starts on a weekly basis due to the surging performances from the Ivorian international who plays in the same position, Emmanuel Eboue. If this man keeps on having smart and successful performances, Sarioglu will continue to be benched.
All he needs is a chance from time to time, whether it be at right-back or if he pushes up that right flank to join the attack. He deserves a bit more from the coach as he has been at Gala for the entirety of his professional career, which began in 2003.
4. Albert Riera
This man made a name for himself at Liverpool in the Premier League. He then went on to play in Greece for Olympiakos before joining Gala in 2011. He did start for the first season and a bit more, but due to a drop in form, he has been playing rarely and almost exited this past summer.
Now, he is beginning to find his stride again from the left-back position as he pushes up from time to time to score and assist. He is in his early 30s, but he still is in the middle of his prime, which is needed by this club. If he gets more playing time, he will continue to impress.
3. Aydin Yilmaz
This man is talented in all parts of the midfield as he has the skill, speed and scoring mentality that has brought this club some recent success. If he gets to play more, his performances will improve on a game-by-game basis and he will gain the club's trust, which will boost his own confidence.
He does not have to start every game, but a game every now and then would boost his abilities. Loyalty and passion should always be paid off, and those are two qualities that this young man does not lack.
2. Emre Colak
This kid has the heart and soul of a lion as he always takes advantage of his minutes on the field. He plays down the left hand side of the field and can also cut inside the middle. He has speed, craftiness and an eye for goal that not too many can even dream of.
The reason why he sits on the bench is because he still gets a bit too excited whereas some of the veterans are a bit calmer, which is what professional soccer is mostly based on. Once he gets past that, he will be a regular starter.
Last but not least, we have a young Portuguese international winger who cost Gala roughly €12 million. He is young, strong, fast, skilled, patient and somehow wise beyond his years. He plays with a swagger that has not been seen at this club since the days of Arda Turan and Franck Ribery. If this new kid can match their abilities over time, this club may have found their new hero.
He does not start in the biggest of games only because he is still getting accustomed to the soccer that is played in this part of the world. Once he learns a bit more and gels with his teammates, he will be an unmistakable member of the starting 11.
