FC Barcelona fans might have received an early Christmas gift. Per reports that were later confirmed by the team’s official website, club officials and Andres Iniesta have agreed to a contract extension to keep the flamboyant playmaker with Los Blaugranas for a few more years.

Terms of the new deal weren’t revealed, but it has been rumored that the new deal will expire after the 2018 season. It has also been mentioned that Iniesta will have one of the highest salaries of the team as a way to show how important he is to the team’s present and future.

The decision to extend Iniesta had been talked about for some time, and Barcelona has made the best possible decision to reward him for his efforts. He’s one of the best players in the world, and is a big part of all the successes that the team has accomplished. Team president Sandro Rossell spoke to the media and confirmed that a deal was reached, saying everybody was very happy that Iniesta will continue playing for Barcelona.

After seeing rumors that Arsenal, Manchester United and even Bayern Munich were reportedly inquiring about him, Los Blaugranas made the right move by signing him to a new, lofty contract.

If the team wants to continue its dominance in recent years, their core of Lionel Messi, Xavi and Iniesta needs to be kept together. The renewal of El Cerebro is one of the best things Barcelona could’ve done before the Christmas break.
