Sunderland and Gus Poyet are rooted to the bottom of the league and no matter what the score at full time on Saturday, the bottom is where they will be. The Stadium of Light remains to be just that, and whether it was progression to the Capital One Cup semifinal against Chelsea midweek or something else, who knows.
I guess no one in the north are talking about the deadly statistic that the team which finds itself bottom over Christmas, usually finds themselves playing in another Division the following season. This season it will be Sunderland and the progression to the Semi Finals of the cup competition is not really a good sign either. Back in 1985, they also found themselves making their way to the Final of this exact competition, only to lose. That side were relegated that same year, as were the team that beat them in the Final. Guess which team that was? Saturdays opponents, Norwich City!
When these two teams met in this league fixture back in 1985, Norwich City ran out 2-0 winners. I hear death chimes for Sunderland if it is the same result on Saturday.
Norwich City will be looking to continue their recent good run, though, at the Black Cat’s expense. Seven points in the last four games means the side from Norfolk enter this game with double the amount of points as Sunderland and with striker Gary Hooper in great form.
