Real Madrid Still Targeting Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney?
Despite having the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale offensively, Real Madrid are still looking to improve their attacking line with more world-class players.
French star Karim Benzema has stepped up as of late and his numbers actually look really good for the first half of the season – 10 goals already in 21 matches – but Real Madrid has decided to look for a forward reinforcement during the January transfer window.
With Luis Suarez off the market after agreeing to an extension with Liverpool, the team led by Carlo Ancelotti is keeping a close eye on another Premier League star: Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.
The England international is currently negotiating a contract extension with The Red Devils and after all the rumors that linked him with several clubs around Europe, it seems like Rooney now wants to stay at Old Trafford to break Bobby Charlton’s scoring record.
Manchester United has had a disappointing season, but Rooney has been the only bright spot of the team in the attack. With Robin van Persie sidelined and Danny Welbeck playing in a wider role, Rooney is the focal point of the team’s attack, which is exactly why he wanted to stay at Old Trafford.
His good year, however, hasn’t gone unnoticed for the rest of the team and Real Madrid are still targeting him, but they have already made clear they won’t offer more than €25M for the 28-year-old. It appears to be not good enough to make a deal, but it remains to be seen what are Rooney’s wishes regarding a possible move to Los Merengues.
