A few weeks ago I wrote a piece on how important it was for both Juventus and Italy to effectively preserve the health of their star Andrea Pirlo. That’s especially true considering that the 34-year-old represents without a doubt the country’s best asset in view of the World Cup in Brazil as he has already become one of the best players in history, both in terms of talent and leadership.
With the Bianconeri enjoying a well-deserved holiday break as first in the Serie A standings, they will soon be ready to get back on the fields with the crucial return of Pirlo who will be recovered from a 40-day injury in his knee. For manager Antonio Conte, this might just be the best Christmas present he could ever wish for, despite the fact that his absence did not prevent the team from continuing its supremacy in the league.
With his return, certainly the Old Lady will have set the right premises not only to keep dominating in Serie A but also to increase the dream of winning the Europa League title in its own stadium. For sure, winning an international trophy after 18 years from the last one in 1996 would be a perfect way to end the year for the club. Moreover, doing this at home would represent the authentic icing on the cake.
Nonetheless, the great Christmas gift that the Bianconeri are getting from Pirlo doesn’t only involve the injury recovery. As a matter of fact, as reported earlier today by the media, both club and player are ready to sign a contract extension that would allow the midfielder to end his career at Turin.
Such a move would definitely benefit the team both on and off the field, considering that he will always be a great point of reference for the rest of the players. After all, he is very much like wine: the older, the better.
