Liverpool travels to the Etihad Stadium in the late game on Thursday, when the current top side plays the current third position side. Manchester City has been unstoppable at home in the league for a few seasons now, and so Luis Suarez and Brendan Rodgers will really have to be on the top of their game.
Manuel Pellegrini has his Manchestersquad qualified to the knockout stage of the Champions League for the first time in the club’s history, and they are undefeated in their last six games; that included a 6-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur and a 6-3 win against Arsenal, both at the home of City.
Liverpool will go to Manchester with no fear after they also recently beat Tottenham by a big score, and that followed big wins against West Ham and Norwich City. Top scorer Suarez is in good form, while Manchester is light at right back, with Pablo Zabaleta maybe ready for a return after limping off last weekend. The Manchester top scorer Sergio Aguero is out, and ideally, a Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic pairing could cause a threat.
As a team that boasts James Milner, David Silva, Samir Nasri, Jesus Navas and Yaya Toure, they are always capable of scoring from anywhere.
Speaking of Toure, he may feature on opposite sides to his brother and ex-Manchester defender Kolo Toure. If both fan bases are in a festive spirit, we may see one of the biggest Yaya/Kolo chants happen late on Boxing day, with the whole crowd participating.
