Atletico Madrid has started the season on a tear at both the domestic and European level. Even though some teams have expressed interest in some of their players, Los Colchoneros are making the right call in looking to hold on to their stars.
Atletico Madrid’s sporting director Jose Luis Caminero told the press the team is not planning to part ways with their most important players, including Spain internationals Diego Costa and Koke who have been receiving plenty of interest from several sides.
“I know Diego has grown a lot this year and I know he wants to stay here despite all the rumors that have been surrounding him, he will continue playing for us because he recently extended his contract”, the former Atletico legend told reporters in spite of all the speculation with a probable move of the striker to Premier League side Arsenal.
Koke has also been a target of several rumors, but the director said he won’t go anywhere and that even though the rumors aren’t “surprising because he has improved a lot during this season, he will stay with us to anchor the midfield for the foreseeable future”.
With both players ending their speculation regarding a possible move, Atletico are looking to extend the tenure of their core players for the long run. The team has been playing some great soccer under Diego Simeone’s management and the hope of the fans and the management is that they can sustain their place as one of Europe’s top teams.
