Premiership Midseason Review: Arsenal

At the beginning of the season, I had written down my Premier League predictions. Now with 19 games played, let’s look at Arsenal and see how they’ve done. Currently in top spot in the Premier League after 19 games, this is what I had written about their fortunes:

With or without (Luis) Suarez, I think (Arsene) Wenger will have that consistency with his team that will just see them pip Manchester United to third. If they can do this and win one of the two domestic trophies on offer then it may just be one of Wenger’s best seasons for almost a decade.

Today, we know they didn’t get Suarez, but instead splashed the cash on Mesit Ozil and are currently in first position. Chelsea knocked them out of the League Cup, and they will face Bayern Munich in the next round of the Champions League. The third round of the FA Cup also sees them face another big London club, so my prediction for them to win a domestic cup may be a little too far, but who knows.

If Arsene can go into the transfer window and purchase another striker to ease the load on Oliver Giroud, I think that would not be a bad investment to build on the start that they have had. That said, I will stick with my prediction for the Gunners to finish third.
