At the beginning of the season, I had written down my Premier League predictions. Now with 19 games played, let’s look at Aston Villa and see how they’ve done. Currently 13th in the Premier League, this is what I had written about them in August:

Last season, this side finished 15th with 41 points. I expect them to finish a few positions up this season with a few more points than last season.

Their current league position is right on pace for that to prediction be correct, but they need to find a few more points somewhere. They key move for Paul Lambert in the preseason was keeping Christian Benteke interested in staying at Villa. He did that, and along with the progression of the youngsters from last season, this season may have been thought to be going better than they are right now.

Certainly, the recent games were not helpful to Lambert with bad results against the teams around them. Defeats to Stoke, Crystal Palace and Swansea should maybe have yielded more points than the one they got. Going into the new year, Sunderland away and West Brom would be games that I would focus on getting the three points in.

The other two games against Arsenal and Liverpool should be considered bonus points, and a good FA Cup run could easily see them generate noise in the New Year. I predicted them to finish 11th, and I think I will keep with that right now.
