Premiership Midseason Review: Fulham
At the beginning of the season, I had written down my Premier League predictions. Now with 19 games played, let’s look at Fulham and see how they’ve done. Here is what I said during the preseason:
New owner, new players. Martin Jol will again improve this Fulham side and improve on last year’s 12th position.
Now they have a new manager with Jol being fired earlier this month. Rene Meulenstein was made head coach. The results have not really improved vastly, although the Boxing Day win with a goal in the last few minutes against Norwich gave them some hope. That hope was smashed a few days later when Hull City beat them 6-0.
We already know of one addition in the January transfer window with American captain Clint Dempsey returning to the side he did so well at a few seasons back. Can he carry the side out of trouble? That is yet to be seen, but there are more problems at Fulham than a two-month loan can fix.
My prediction of this side finishing 10th looks well off the mark right now, but Fulham do have the players who can pull them up to that mid-table. It is just a question of whether they can all start performing at the top of their games at the same time and on a consistent level.
