Premiership Midseason Review: Stoke City
At the beginning of the season, I had written down my Premier League predictions. Now with 19 games played, let’s look at Stoke City and see how they’ve done. Unfortunately, I had them finishing in the relegation zone when I did my predictions at the beginning of the season. This is what I wrote:
Mark Hughes will have to really improve on his last few attempts in management if Stoke are not to go down this season … I do not think there has been enough done to bring in players to kick them back up the top half.
The Potters are only five points away from my prediction of an 18th-place finish. Discipline from players and even the manager hasn’t helped the situation either. The key for Mark Hughes‘ men is to first try to keep their discipline. They will certainly need all hands to the pump when they get to the serious part of the season.
The first two league games for the team in the new year are at home to the two Merseyside clubs, and so any points there will be bonus points. The really important games of January come at the end of the month away to relegation candidates Crystal Palace and Sunderland. Those two games at home should be marked as three-pointers.
