Premiership Midseason Review: Swansea City
At the beginning of the season, I had written down my Premier League predictions. Now with 19 games played, let’s look at Swansea City and see how they’ve done. Although the loss of Michu was significant, I think I may have got it right initially. The fact they are still in it has me worried, although I doubt they will progress further. Here’s what I wrote about them in the preseason:
I think the European adventure will prove to be too much of a distraction for the Swans and will bring them close to the relegation zone.
New Year’s Day will see the Swans face Manchester City, who dominate at home but struggled away earlier this year while playing City’s neighbors United. They lost away matches first in the FA Cup and then in the League within a week. That matchup is followed by a visit from Tottenham.
January may be a throwaway month for Swansea City given the teams they have to face and the fact that Michu will be missing, but a good start to February may be crucial. A home showdown with rivals Cardiff is sandwiched between visits away to relegation candidates Stoke and West Ham.
