Juventus’ Arturo Vidal Would Be an Excellent Addition to Manchester United’s Squad
Manchester United manager David Moyes is reportedly considering a move for Juventus player Arturo Vidal despite the fact that the Chilean midfielder recently extended his contract until 2017 and stated that he was happy at Juventus. It is very unlikely that the Italian club will let its best player go in the middle of the season, but should United manage to sign Vidal, Moyes would finally attract the world-class midfielder his team misses dearly
Central midfield is without a doubt the area of the field where Manchester United is the weakest. Marouane Fellaini, signed from Everton last summer to partner with Michael Carrick in the middle of the park, hasn’t lived up to the expectations yet and has missed many games due to injuries. Moyes has often used Tom Cleverley and Anderson next to Carrick, but both of them have failed to impress the United boss. Cleverley and Anderson are good Premier League players, but not Manchester United-caliber players. After failing to sign Cesc Fabregas in the summer transfer window, Moyes will try again this January to get a world-class midfielder and seems to have made the signing of Vidal a priority.
Since joining Juventus in 2011, Vidal has been an important player for the Italian side. He helped the bianconeri to two consecutive Serie A titles in 2012 and 2013 from his right central midfield position in Antonio Conte‘s 3-5-2 formation. This season,Vidal has played every game for the Italian champions, who look likely to keep their title as they lead the way five points ahead of Roma. Vidal has been not only Juventus’, but Serie A’s best player.
Should he join United, Vidal would become the box-to-box midfielder Moyes’ side desperately need. The Chilean midfielder has scored seven times in 17 Serie A games and five times in six Champions League games. This season, Vidal has already scored more goals than all of Manchester United midfielders combined. In addition to being a reliable goal-scorer,Vidal is a very good passer of the ball, covers a lot of ground, defends well and gets forward quick to support the attacks.
To salvage his first season in charge at Old Trafford and qualify for the Champions League, Moyes will need to strengthen his midfield. Arturo Vidal is one of the best central midfielders in the world and would turn Manchester United’s season around, but the biggest issue is the transfer fee the move would cost.
