After being linked with some of the top strikers in Europe like Diego Costa and Karim Benzema, Arsenal keep searching the open market to improve their attack during January.

Olivier Giroud is the only consistent option the team has to start upfront, and while Nicklas Bendtner has been putting up some good performances in the last month he is not consistent enough to be considered a reliable option. Therefore, Arsene Wenger is keen to add another forward in the transfer window and a possibility has surfaced in recent hours.

According to reports, Arsenal could be tempted to make a move to land Mario Mandzukic, but it is unclear whether if the Croatian star would be allowed to join The Gunners during this season which is the priority of the London-based club. The arrival of Robert Lewandowski to Bayern Munich makes this even more difficult for the former Dinamo Zagreb forward, and he could be keen to play elsewhere starting next season.

If Arsenal are able to land Mandzukic, they would pick up a solid player that could even start in place of Giroud. The Croatia international is able to operate in limited space inside the box, he’s a threat both in the air and on the ground and he’s technical enough to play in a deeper role if needed for a short space of time. He would add another dimension to Arsenal’s attacking game which is something the team desperately needs to achieve objectives this season.

It certainly won’t be easy to sign Mandzukic since Juventus are also keen to land him, but if Arsenal moves quickly they might snap him up. It would be a great signing for The Gunners looking towards the future of the team.
