Does Arsenal Have Enough Weapons To Replace Theo Walcott?

Arsenal suffered a huge blow to their title chances today with the confirmed news that winger Theo Walcott will be out for the reminder of the season after an ACL injury.

The skillful winger suffered the injury in the FA Cup contest against Tottenham – something that will surely start a debate whether it’s good to include your best players in early Cup games. Now that he will be out for the rest of the campaign, Arsenal needs to find a suitable way to replace him.

With little to no options in the January transfer market and considering that Walcott will be ready to go once the new season starts, The Gunners would be wise to search within their own squad for a replacement for the England international. Despite the fact that there aren’t many players with his set of skills, he can be perfectly replaced.

Players like Tomas Rosicky and Santi Cazorla are adept to play in a wider role. Even though they don’t add much in terms of pace, they can put some much needed skill and pass to the attacking zone of the midfield. German star Mesut Özil is also an option since he usually plays on the wings with the German National Team and did it more than once during his tenure at Real Madrid.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is, without a doubt, the only player on the squad that has a similar style to Walcott, but he’s quite young and might not be ready to embrace that responsibility.

The important thing for Arsenal is that they have options. While the injury is a big blow, they shouldn’t suffer too much with the loss of their star winger.
