Real Madrid hosted and successfully wiped Osasuna in a clean sheet by a score of 2-0. The scorers were none other than Karim Benzema and Jese Rodriguez in a one-sided affair where the hosts could have scored many more. Regardless, they kept their opponents scoreless, which is great news ahead of the second leg, which will be played on their field.
Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the players who could have had goals but was unable to find the back of the net on a few occasions. The good news is that he did sweetly set up Rodriguez in a take-it-and-score pass, as he rolled the ball to the youngster who lofted it home from close range. The Portuguese international captain was dispossessed a few times as he tried to do too much, but the assist takes a bit of the heat off of his performance.
Gareth Bale had a decent game as he frustrated opponents with his speed and dance moves, but he was unable to find the back of the net. He is still getting accustomed to the league, but the good news is that he is overflowing with confidence, which is something that is desperately needed in order to become a star in La Liga. He will be there one day soon.
As for the rest of the team, they played admirably, as they were able to use their possession game to full succession. However, the problem is that they were a bit too predictable at times, which is why it was easier to defend them for a team that played with same 4-2-3-1 formation. If they try to play the same way in the return leg, they will allow goals and perhaps even lose by a goal, which will bring them nervy moments before the end of the 90.
Real Madrid will advance into the next round because a 2-0 goal lead will be sufficient, as they will certainly score at least one goal to cushion their aggregate lead.
