Before the start of the year, Manchester City was called out by many as candidates to win the English Premier League title this season, but they struggled mightily away from home to start the campaign.
Many doubted the chances of Manuel Pellegrini’s men to win it all, as they looked unable to win away from home, however, they have reversed that trend in recent games. They showed it once again today as they defeated Newcastle United by a 2-0 score at St. James Park.
Goals from Edin Dzeko and Alvaro Negredo – one on each half – were enough for The Citizens to come away with three more points and the team looked solid from start to finish. And apparently, winning away from home is becoming something usual for the Etihad Stadium outfit.
Going back to Dec. 4, Manchester City has played eight games away from home and they haven’t lost any; in fact, they have won six and two games resulted in draws — against Southampton in the EPL and against Blackburn Rovers during an FA Cup match. It seems like Manuel Pellegrini has finally found the tactic needed to win away from home, and if this trend continues, this time will be a scary one to face down the stretch.
Manchester City has some tough games on the road in the coming weeks against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur at the end of January and both Manchester United and FC Barcelona in March, but if the previous games are some sort of indication, The Citizens are ready to overcome any obstacle they have to face to win the title.
They have enough talent to win it all and they should be able to clinch their objectives if they keep winning on the road.
