Back in December when Tim Sherwood took over for Tottenham Spurs in the early goings of the 2013-14 EPL season, he made a somewhat bold move and plugged forward Emmanuel Adebayor into the starting XI. In Sunday’s 3-1 win over Swansea City, Adebayor scored two goals and proved why Sherwood has been starting him.
After being demolished 5-0 against Liverpool on December 15, Tottenham has gone 4-0-1 in Premiere League action, as well as picking up their fifth straight away victory. In addition to bringing in a new manager, the main reason for their recent success is due to Adebayor’s inclusion and his stellar performances.
Overall, things are on the up for Tottenham. Even with losing their star striker Gareth Bale during the Summer transfer window, Spurs are serious contenders to finishing in the top four in the EPL standings and qualifying for 2014-15 Champions League action.
This continued success recently also raises the team’s confidence. With their next match against arguably the hottest EPL team in Manchester City, their undefeated streak will be on the line. Nonetheless, Sherwood has proven he can effectively manage a team that looked to be doomed only a month ago.
As we head towards the end of January, Spurs will be looking to crack the top of the standings. With an eight-point difference between them and Arsenal, it will take some time to close the difference, but the gap to the top four is much smaller. Currently, Liverpool and Tottenham are tied in fourth at 43 points, and with Arsenal’s defensive flaws, they may be falling down the standings soon.
Sherwood’s risky, yet smart decision to include Adebayor has paid off and is leading Tottenham to success this season.
