Manchester City has been unstoppable this season and today, they showed how dangerous they can be when given enough space on offense.
The team led by Manuel Pellegrini dismantled Tottenham Hotspur and after winning by an expressive 5-1, the Citizens climbed all the way to the top spot in the Premier League standings. Even though there is plenty to play for in the tournament, the team is now poised to get their second title in three years.
Much of the success can be given to what Pellegrini has done with this team after arriving to the Etihad Stadium this season.
The Chilean tactician replaced Roberto Mancini, and it has been incredible how he has changed the look of the team in only half a year. Aside from very successful signings like Alvaro Negredo and Fernandinho, the team looks vastly improved from the last season and they have been solid all over the pitch.
The forward lines are the ones that receive the majority of the praise, and it has been understandable. Sergio Aguero, Negredo and Edin Dzeko have been scoring for fun all season long and they are one of the most prolific offenses in Europe this season, battling for the top spot with the likes of Bayern Munich and FC Barcelona. The possession tactic employed by Pellegrini has been key in this regard, and they seem poised to battle for the title until the final weeks of the year.
They certainly have enough weapons to take home the silverware, and if they can survive the perils of a long season, it wouldn’t be a stretch to see Manchester City taking their place as the best team in England once it’s all said and done.
