Real Madrid: Date With Atletico Madrid Will Be Trickiest Yet
Real Madrid defeated RCD Espanyol, while Atletico Madrid defeated Athletic Bilbao to make the semifinals of the Copa Del Rey. Now, they will face each another twice to see who will make the final round of the prestigious Spanish cup competition. The last time these two sides met in this competition was in last year’s final. The game was played in Real’s Santiago Bernabeu stadium, but Atletico ended up winning it by a score of 2-1 after extra time.
Yes, revenge is surely on the minds of Real. However, it gets worse for Los Blancos as they ended up losing the first league meeting of the season 1-0 … also on home soil. In addition to all of that, they sit just one point behind Atletico in the standings at third place. Real will look for the aggregate victory against their bitter city rivals to advance to the final to perhaps face Barcelona, who will look to get past either Racing Santander or Real Sociedad.
Real did not have to rely on Cristiano Ronaldo as he had trouble finding the back of the net. Instead, youngster Jese Rodriguez scored the game-winner only seven minutes in against Espanyol to guarantee the 2-0 aggregate win. If he can continue to play well, he will keep getting playing time until Gareth Bale returns from injury.
With the recent losses against Atletico on their mind, Real will look to cement their dominance over their rivals by getting past them to the final. In addition, they will look to defeat them in league play on the road in order to have a better chance of winning the La Liga league title.
Prediction: Real Madrid 3, Atletico Madrid 2 (aggregate)
