Robin Van Persie Leads Manchester United to Victory During Juan Mata’s Debut
It was a big night for the boys in red. Manchester United took on Cardiff City FC and beat them 2-0. That’s just the result the team was hoping for, but there was a lot more riding on the night. There were two men that fans everywhere were excited to see play: Robin van Persie and Juan Mata.
Van Persie had been absent from the lineup since Dec. 10 because of a groin injury. The United hero had a great return as he scored the first goal of the night with a close-range header. This is why he was so dearly missed; on the first day back the man was able to score a goal. It was an incredible shot and just what he hoped to achieve. The club is glad to have him back in good health as are the fans. He’s an incredible player and worth every penny that United pays for him.
Mata, who was transferred from rivals Chelsea FC, made his debut for United. His big day may have been upstaged by the return of Van Persie — and the opening goal — but his skill was commended. Fans gave the newcomer a standing ovation as he was substituted out late in the match. He made a difference even though it was not seen on the scoreboard. Chelsea fans may not like it, but Mata is a great addition to United. This is where he belongs.
United is currently in the sixth spot on the Premier League table, which is far from what it’s used to. Hopefully the return of Van Persie and Wayne Rooney along with the arrival of Mata will help them move up the table. Let the rest of the Premier League teams be wary of what United will now have in store for them.
