Having only signed Juan Mata in January, Manchester United are likely to wait to sign the likes of Luke Shaw in the summer.
David Moyes has comfortably admitted that his squad is in need of new faces, and 18-year-old Southampton left-back Shaw has been one of those strongly linked. But despite his standout performances for such a young player, United haven’t been reported as having even put in a bid this January transfer window.
But the Saints have strongly stated that they wouldn’t sell anyone this January as their squad looks to stick together during one of their best seasons in decades. Therefore if you were to predict the outcome, you would suggest United and Moyes would most likely be after Shaw in summer. They have recognized there is no point in overpaying to bring Shaw to United five months earlier than they would for a more respectable price.
United need a new left back with 32-year-old Patrice Evra‘s better days behind him and current backup Alex Buttner failing to impress. Shaw looks like the real deal and a complete player for a man of such young age, and he’s also an English talent that United tend to be attracted to.
Moyes will almost certainly be on the hunt for a left back come the summer window, and Shaw will be a high priority on his list. Rumors also suggest the likes of David Alaba from Bayern Munich, but that would be a significantly harder acquisition than Shaw who is likely to happily accept a move to the Premier League champions.
