Five Reasons Why Manchester City Will Win 2014 UEFA Champions League
Manchester City have taken a huge quality leap in recent years, and it seems like this will finally be the season where they will conquer Europe as the best team in the continent.
The Citizens played in the Football League One, a third-tier category in England, near the end of the 90s, but they re-established themselves as a Premier League outfit soon after that and took a new step in 2008, where Qatari investors took control of the club. Since then, Manchester City has signed some of the best players in the world and they could make history if they lift the UEFA Champions League trophy this season.
The team has a tough road ahead of them in the Round of 16 but if they are able to advance, it seems like the sky will be the limit for Manchester City. They certainly have enough to be considered contenders in Europe, and they could end up lifting the UEFA Champions League trophy once it’s all said and done. These are five reasons why.
5. Manuel Pellegrini
The Chilean tactician has already reached the semifinals with Villarreal, and this time he has a much better squad at his disposal. He has already shown that he knows how to prepare teams for these stages of the competition, and that extra preparation could be key against the likes of FC Barcelona, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
4. Sergio Aguero
The Argentinean forward has become the heart and soul of Manchester City, and he has taken his play to a whole other level this season. The forward is the undisputed star of the squad and he has been virtually unstoppable this season at the European level, leading Manchester City against the top teams in the tournament. If he can come back strong for the second part of the year, The Citizens’ chances will only continue to grow.
3. Star-Studded Midfield
The midfield area in anchored by Yaya Toure, who is a threat on both ends of the pitch, and defensive specialist Fernandinho. Meanwhile, players like James Milner, David Silva and Samir Nasri are in charge of the creativity. The team’s midfield works like a perfect clock, and they are difficult to challenge when their passing game is clicking.
2. Offensive Versatility
Manchester City assembled a squad where versatility is a key factor, and that can be seen on the offensive side of the ball. The Citizens have players that can be used in several different positions up front, and that could be a deadly weapon to surprise teams on the decisive knockout stages.
1. Prolific Attack
Manchester City has the best offense in Europe, and they are simply impossible to stop when they are on their game. Sergio Agüero, Edin Dzeko, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic have been scoring for fun this season and if they continue down this road, there will be no team capable of stopping them.
