Five Reasons Why Real Madrid Will Win 2014 UEFA Champions League
Real Madrid is the top team when it comes to UEFA Champions League titles. Los Blancos have already won Europe’s biggest club competition nine times and no matter how they are doing in the domestic league, they are always a threat to come out on top in the European stage. This year is no different; after cruising their way through the group stage, Los Merengues are already in the Round of 16 and with good chances of reaching the final stages of the tournament.
There are plenty of signs that say this might be the year that they win their 10th UEFA Champions League trophy. Chairman Florentino Perez has expressed his desire to spend as much as needed to make Real Madrid a powerhouse team in the world, but that will only be reflected by titles as people usually only remember the winners. Los Blancos reached the semifinals last year where they lost to Borussia Dortmund, and after making several changes both on and off the pitch, they appear to be better equipped to make another deep run at the title.
Here are five reasons why Los Blancos will take home the UCL trophy once it’s all said and done. Read on to find out.
5. Carlo Ancelotti
The former PSG manager has plenty of experience at the international level and last season, he proved he can still compete, leading the Ligue 1 champions all the way to the quarterfinals. Real Madrid has a much better team, and Carlo Ancelotti will surely lead them all the way to the title.
4. Iker Casillas
The Spanish international hasn't played in La Liga this season, but he’s the starter at the European stage where he has shown time and time again that he is one of the best keepers in the world. If he can find a way to stay active, he has the talent and experience to be a difference-maker.
Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Xabi Alonso have plenty of experience. While that’s a factor that is almost never considered, knowing how to play important games is often the difference between an early exit and a title run.
2. Strong Attack
Real Madrid’s attack is anchored by Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Portugal star is not the only player that can score. Record-breaking transfer Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema are the other starters, and the bench features players like Angel Di Maria, Jese Rodriguez and Morata. That’s certainly a tough attack, and they can break any defense with their quality.
1. Cristiano Ronaldo
The reigning Ballon D’Or winner has taken another step this season and while he continues to be a leader on the pitch, he has also become an important player for the club in the locker room. Ronaldo is at his peak, so he appears to be ready to lead Real Madrid to their 10th UEFA Champions League title.
